Anatevka (Fiddler on the Roof)

Anatevka (Fiddler on the Roof)

Musical in two acts, based on Sholem Aleichem’s classic Yiddish stories, with the explicit permission of Arnold Perl
Book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick
Translation by Rolf Merz and Gerhard Hagen

Premiere: 21 June 2019

In a village as Marc Chagall might have painted it, a fiddler on the roof and loveable characters find themselves between Jewish tradition and a departure toward uncertain times.

Tevje, a poor milkman, navigates this journey with his precocious wit, despite his young and marriageable daughters, who consistently meddle in his plans.

At the Schlossfestspiele Schwerin 2019, in a picturesque setting nestled between the romantic Schwerin Palace and the winding old town, this touching musical with its sparkling melodies and unshakeable humour will capture your heart!

Cyrano is as accurate with his sword as he is with words, but his shame about his enormous nose has him writing letters to his adored Roxanne anonymously. Perhaps she will realise through his words that he is the author anyway? This fast-paced and charming love story, peppered with situation comedy and wordplay about an eloquent show-off and the power of poetry comes to life within the beautiful courtyard of the Schwerin Palace.

Production by Alejandro Quintana
